I gave up on my mother after she voted for Trump this past election. I had been accommodating her terrible beliefs by instating a “no politics” rule in 2020. But her helping him back into office again is too much. I have friends who he wants to harm and that’s not acceptable to me.

I agree with sibling comments about not forcing anything on kids. I hate sports because I was made to play seasonal sports (tee ball, basketball, soccer) in elementary school and middle school. The only sport I’ll play is freestyle frisbee in a field.

Just have a computer available. Agree with the idea of showing how to create drawings and such. Then go full hands off. If it happens, it happens.

What happens on the street during police encounters and what people call you about are not the same thing.

Their users wanted to defederate right away when they saw the rest of Lemmy. The people in charge (able to pull the switch) kept telling them to hold on and it’d get better. A small number of people made the decision for all of them. It’s all the rest for whom I genuinely feel bad. Their community was highjacked and, I think to them, attacked. I can have empathy for the average users.

Thanks! Unlike a lot of Lemmy users, I have a soft spot for hexbears. I think they had a genuinely traumatic experience when they federated and their very personal instance was inundated with people who didn’t think and talk as they did. I’m glad they’re ok.

I shared with my mother, only yesterday, that I consider her somewhat of a bad person for voting for orange for a second term. I said that she could be forgiven for not perceiving what he is the first time (though it was obvious to anyone with limited understanding of the world), but after seeing him in action and voting for him again, she should be ashamed of herself. I don’t expect the relationship to ever fully recover, as I will not forgive her for endangering my loved ones and all of us collectively.
