After reading that I thought the ‘HDMI Forum’ was a literal internet forum of nerds who invented HDMI and didn’t want to make it open source for anyone. lol.
don’t forget to bring a towel!

Man I was just telling my wife about this the other day. YouTube’s home page, not signed in, on an American VPN was disgusting: AI slop, half-naked women, and propaganda that was not only pro-Trump but actively suggesting violence

Half right. There are credible rumors that they’ll be releasing a remaster of Oblivion soon, which is a separate project from TES 6. And yeah, it’s a major dick move.
I’m on lemm.ee! It seems to have a good balance of users and sensible defederation. On mobile, the app you use make a world of a difference too. Both Jerboa and Thunder (Android) were mid tier experiences, but now I’m using Boost and it’s phenomenal!
Just chiming in to throw some light hearted shade at lemmy.world for defederating from the piracy communities. My time on lemmy.world was really poor, and I came away not thinking too highly of Lemmy as a whole. My experience in different instances has been a world of difference, and I finally get fantastic content in my feeds and am fully on board with Lemmy
So I accidentally disabled the UserJS toggle, and now I can’t interact with the UI at all to re-enable it. Any ideas how I can fix that in the configuration files?
Ugh this takes me back to my electrician days: trying to splice these fuckers in a dark, hot attic, with only a blue-hued headlamp to help you piece out what color everything actually was. Good times.
Man I miss my Sony Ericsson. Phones used to be unique
Sex with a hella sexy robot? Nice.
Using a hella sexy robot to fill the emptiness of no intimacy or authentic mutual connection? Not nice.
For some reason sex with a robot doesn’t feel gross to me — until they start using it to fill a hole (hehe)
Through the release of the first iPhone to the mid 2010s I’d wager that most consumers agreed that iPhones were superior to Android by most metrics: they featured more support across the board, had more apps, looked nicer, and were considered the premium. Apple pioneered the modern smartphone and had a headstart in getting users hooked into their ecosystem. Nowhere was this more pronounced than in the wealthiest country in the world (and Apple’s home country).
That’s a huge generalization but I think it resonates true to a degree. Also, anecdotally, I remember that all my school computers were Macs when growing up. I’m sure Apple seeped its tendrils into people’s lives a variety of ways. It’s not a cake walk for most people to switch ecosystems. As a lifelong Windows user I’ll have a panic attack if you asked me to print a document on a Mac; I’m sure its the same vice versa lol
Ahh interesting. Is that a Windows 11 thing? I haven’t taken the plunge
If you just need a quick window open to make a note you might actually prefer Sticky Notes over Notepad!
Sorry, I misread. What is bad about the UX exactly? You don’t need to customize anything if you don’t want to; “it just works”. And I dont follow you on how having the option to customize things makes it a bad user experience. You’re assuming the native UI is bad for some reason.
I’ve used Plex a lot too back in the day but there’s nothing it provides that Jellyfin doesn’t do out of the box + self-hosted + for free.
Man I’ve been looking for this exact sort of project for ages. Thanks for sharing, OP!
You can change the UI design to whatever you want with a custom CSS. Can make your own or there’s a plethora of themes on GitHub. I remember trying one that replicated the Netflix app, and don’t hold me to it but I think I saw a Plex one as well.
Also, regarding the metadata, there are options that auto populate it for you. Idk how it does it, but my haphazard library of torrents all had accurate metadata AND it downloaded the subtitle files as well.
I tried Jellyfin two years ago and was so fed up troubleshooting the installation that I swore it off. Tried it again a few months ago and it worked flawlessly! Now I host movies, shows, music, ebooks, and audiobooks for a handful of friends and family. My jellyfin instance is probably siphoning $120/month from Netflix’s subscription revenue lol
You’re not wrong, they are absolutely within their rights, and Skyblivion shouldn’t preclude others from Oblivion projects (especially not the IP holders). But it still rubs me and others the wrong way. Bethesda doesn’t need to do this; they aren’t hurting for cash. It feels petty to jump on the Oblivion remaster train right as this public (free) project, that has been worked on for like a decade, is nearing the end of its production. It’s just slimy behaviour from Bethesda IMO, but I will definitely give them kudos for not issuing a cease and desist.
