US, Russia and North Korea?
I want to believe but I am forced to question the character of US citizens. I apologize if this offends and I would love to be proven wrong.
Why would I expect the “good people” in the US who “didn’t vote for authoritarianism” to suddenly grow a spine and a social conscience if all the evidence for decades shows they can’t even take political action to protect their school children? This is unfathomable for someone in another country where just one mass slaughter of innocents would unify an outraged nation into decisive action. I think even the “good guys” might be more broken than you realize. There is no greater call on any parent than to defend their own offspring. If they can’t do that can they really be expected to defend the rights of strangers?
I hope for your sake you can all reclaim your humanity. It is never too late.
Are people still buying Murdoch papers and watching Sky News? Are all the US media giants who have kissed the ring of self-identifying NAZIs still operating? Then the media environment is already fucked.
The ALP and Greens will struggle more than ever to get their message out to voters if they rely in normal channels. They have to get really creative.
Australia and NZ are in a difficult position. From the day European’s arrived they have been aligned to the world’s dominant sea power. Both are remote and reliant on sea trade. I don’t know that we have the mental flexibility to change. More likely we will negotiate with the Whitehouse to get the best we can out of things under the circumstances. I wouldn’t expect major political parties here to publicly oppose Trump except on long established foreign policy like support of Ukraine. I wouldn’t mistake lack of protest with acceptance.
The countries with the most self-interest in securing our sea trade are China, Japan and South Korea for their food, energy and raw materials, not the USA. US is a net exporter to us but a lot of it is financial, services/IP and I think their commitment is somewhat less than it was post WW2.
