  • I’ll throw out a new one: Cricut vinyl cutters.

Machine works just dandy, software is, quite literally, the worst I’ve worked with in 30 years of IT. The company puts no money into the product, it’s clearly only there to blast users with ads and give the machine basic, and hellish, functionality.

Here’s the best part! I can’t use my cutter unless I connect the software to the internet. It updates daily, yet ads nothing to functionality. Must be updating shit for sale.

Couple of years ago they made headline news by changing the terms so that users could only work on a couple of projects without paying for a subscription. A couple of projects could easily be part of one project. The howls of outrage got them to back off, damage done. I’ll replace it with any other brand if that time comes.

  • …in the early 1980s, he teamed up with a female physician who believed in the idea. They spent the next 18 months gathering research, asking for insights and meeting with engineers who could bring the product to life.

From inception to prototyping to how the Sybian performs today wasn’t a “one and done” process. Years of research, conducting interviews and refinement went into its creation. As the creator himself says, “Sybian is not the result of what I thought it should be, but the collective input of many women.”

You can’t seriously think the ultimate female orgasm machine was invented without women? Plenty of videos that will back me on the “ultimate” part!

  • Despite what you’ll hear from tech oriented spaces like lemmy, there is nothing inherently wrong with the profession. And FFS, there are 100 different paths to explore, pretty awesome. Part of it was having 30-years under my belt and simply getting burnt. My boss and a coworker were talking about Tails, sounded right up my alley, something I should be excited to learn. Realized I just didn’t give a shit.

My last job burned my passion, flamed out. On paper, it was the best employer I’ve ever had, but I was really depressed. How could I be making this much money, at a company that puts employees first, and still not be happy?! I was wracked with guilt, couldn’t understand it.

This explains why I was happy for half the pay at a previous job. I had autonomy, mastery and purpose. Also explains much of why I’m happier slinging mulch at Lowe’s. Please give this 10-minutes of your time. For anyone questioning their job or career, it’s a valuable insight into what truly makes us happy at our work.

  • Conservatives generally don’t give a shit about trans people. They don’t hate them, but neither do they care about trans issues. If an issue doesn’t directly affect a conservative, that issue doesn’t exist. We’ve seen this attitude 1,000 times.

Look at pre-election polling for an example. The majority of their opinions were between, “Don’t care.” and “Stop with this trans hate bullshit. The attack ads are mean and hurting our chances.” (All I’m finding are post-election articles ATM.)

It’s conservative politicians that are trying to whip up hate. They need an “other” to focus the people’s ire. And that’s a whole nother write up.

Anecdotally, I’ve not once heard, or overheard, a single word against trans people IRL. And I am neck deep in conservatives around here, and they’re plenty loud.

  • I’m the guy who ditched his IT career to work at Lowe’s. Been going pretty well, except for the pay of course. Only been a month and the GM and a couple of AGMs are noticing me, giving me better/different work.

Seems I’m not getting so many evening hours, that’s my main complaint. This spring I bet I can go full daytime hours.

Being part-time allows me to pursue some woodworking projects I hope to make money on, and the 10% employee discount doesn’t hurt!

  • Long before the notion of privilege was widely talked about, I was the clueless white guy. OTOH, I did have a clue. After a few interactions with the cops and courts I thought, “Well, that went better than expected. Thank god I’m not black.”

Ask me about having a “black” middle name and getting my resumes trashed for 2 months, not one response. Changed my email, got 3 interviews and 2 offers in the following 2 weeks.
