Nextcloud is great for contacts and calendar. Try it. I recommend using the all-in-one docker. Super easy to setup.

Needing to pass on the price is quiet worrysome. It might affect sales. Economics is really not that hard to understand once you get into the basic fundamentals.

They probably lost a ton of money developing it. I bet nobody got overly rich with this endeavor.
