I asked a few friends and co-workers about the election. Most of them had no idea there was an election being held right now. The ones that did had no idea who was running besides Ford.

One even told me that our local riding only has a Conservative candidate so there’s nobody else. Our riding actually has 6 candidates. They thought there was only one candidate because they’ve only seen his campaign signs and nobody else’s.

Ontarians are truly apathetic. I think a big part of that comes from people not knowing what powers the premier has. If people realized the premier controls things like healthcare, labour standards, and public transportation they might care a bit more. Ford has done so little, and blamed the federal government for so much, that I think people assume the position is equivalent to Mayor of Toronto.

I’m sick of calling it apathy. We have the internet in our pockets, it’s just willful ignorance and stupidity.

Unless someone is a follower of politics/news there is no way to really inform people anymore.

The party candidate mail looks like junkmail and only gets one per address, so it’s very easy to miss. Many folk living in shared homes or units would have no idea.

I haven’t used fb or twitter in a few years and never touched tiktok so I have no clue how that works anymore, but by the sounds of things they aren’t the greatest for creating awareness about things that aren’t rw conspiracies.

The ONLY reason I know is because of posts in c/ontario. Not the news, not radio, not flyers, or yardsigns.
