Announcement
249 years ago, America chose democracy over tyranny. The U.S. was founded to be governed by the consent of all its people, not just a privileged few. That choice stands today. We refuse to allow a dictator to seize power now.
No Kings Day was an incredible success, but now we must escalate our resistance against Trump’s authoritarian overreach. His latest actions, including his disturbing social media proclamations and executive orders consolidating power, confirm our worst fears: this is an upheaval of the rule of law and the republic established by the Constitution.
How we respond now will define our history. Our response must be immediate and undeniable. Those who bow to authoritarianism will be remembered for their cowardice. We must demand that our elected officials take action now — silence is complicity.
We’re calling on you to join us on our March 4th For Democracy day of action to defend democracy, reject Trump’s authoritarian overreach, and demand accountability from our government.
Join us where and however you can. Organize a peaceful protest in your state. Call your government officials. Donate to charities that help the populations most effected by Trump’s executive orders. Volunteer with organizations that defend our civil rights. Spread the word and educate on the issues and implications of Trump’s unlawful actions. Share, amplify, and take action—this fight belongs to all of us.
Let’s make our message clear, and let’s make it loudly:
Our Democracy Will Stand. America Does Not Bow to Kings.
50 Protests, 50 States, 1 Movement.

A MESSAGE FROM 50501 DC CHAPTER:
The 50501 DC Chapter is taking proactive measures to ensure the safety of their peaceful protestors. On March 4th, instead of marching forth for democracy, the DC Chapter will focus their main efforts on a Virtual Day of Action. More details, including how to participate in the Virtual Day of Action, will be shared at https://linktr.ee/50501DC.
Our March 4th For Democracy day of action is calling for an in-person protest in your home state. Please visit fiftyfifty.one to find the protest nearest you.
CONCERNING THE MARCH 4TH DC PROTEST
The March 4th national march in DC was never an official 50501 protest. The flyer announcing the event was created by a well-meaning individual who was not affiliated with the 50501 DC organizers, and by the time it reached us to address it, it had already reached many of you. After evaluating the safety and logistics of hosting such an event, the DC organizers did not feel they could safely plan a large, national event with their available resources and funding before March 4th. They are choosing to move forward with a livestream leading up to and during the SOTU in lieu of an in-person protest.
The DC organizers are considering plans for a future march and strongly encourage protesters to attend protests in their area during the March 4th for Democracy day of action. Stay tuned for an announcement from DC protesters coming soon!

me4er1iThe Mods saying that they are not able to organize in time for people to safely protest, ensuring that people are not harmed by law enforcement or wrongfully imprisoned — and getting downvoted for it is WILD.

me3oc5mThe DC organizers are an autonomous group who are allowed to choose if they participate in days of action. They chose not to participate in 3/4 because they do not have the resources or funds to plan a national protest in the time they have.

I mean like why does it look like a weird copy and paste job and what are they saying?
It’s like some little note that only seems to apply to one discord group or something then a big announcement that seems to say nothing at all.

You’re still more than welcome to go to DC. However, there is no planned protest and you may safe safety and legal consequences. Each group of organizers is autonomous and the DC organizers chose not to participate in the 3/4 day of action due to lack of resources and funding to plan a national event.
As you will notice at the bottom, we were still calling for an in-person protest inside of your state.

The DC group chose not to move forward with a 3/4 in-person protest because they did not feel they had the resources or funds to plan a national protest in the time they had to do it. We are still calling for protests in your individual states.

Thank you for doing what we all know is best! 50501 isn’t saying don’t protest they are saying that march 4th isn’t a national official 50501 protest. It’s coming, we will stand united again soon! Do not lose hope. Patience and planning is key for our success.

me3dfojDC organizers are autonomous and can choose whether they want to participate in days of action. This is a coalition, meaning there is no resources or funding available at the national level. Having just planned 2 protests in the last month, the DC organizers felt they did not have the resources, funds, or time to plan a nationwide protest.
Please have some compassion for the organizers. They are real people and volunteers here.

This is absolutely preposterous. For all the reasons already stated by others. Sounds like we need an alternate group to officially organize and who won’t back down at the slightest push back. (I’m in Oregon, not DC, but still plan on protesting. Just can’t believe the reasoning for us not showing up in DC in force ORGANIZED as part of a movement.

me3q4koFor background all of this is done by volunteers, even in DC. People outside of the city just picked a date and ran with it, not realizing that they were signing up volunteers to plan a night protest in 2 weeks, on one of the most police-heavy days of the year. And just fyi I’m not even a volunteer either; I’ve been protest mooching.
If you could help organize a protest in Oregon that would probably be a better use of your money and time than coming here. But if you really want to come Refuse Fascism is organizing a protest that you can attend.

If you choose to plan a DC event, please take important safety and legal precautions for the safety of all protesters. If you’d like to advertise that event after it has been planned, please reach out on our event platform. Until then, this is a potential threat to public safety.
We encourage peaceful protests in order to foster productive conversations and safe protests for all participants.
